👉 ⏯️ Song: For the One (Bethel Music Cover) - Shauna Chanda
12 After [Jesus] had washed their feet, had put on his robe, and had returned to the table, he said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? 13 You call me Teacher and Lord—and you are right, for that is what I am. 14 So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have set you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you. 16 Very truly, I tell you, servants are not greater than their master, nor are messengers greater than the one who sent them. 17 If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.”
In the moments before His death, Jesus intentionally took time to wash His disciples’ feet. But beyond this intimate and compassionate action, He instructs the disciples to “do as [he has] done.” He says that they will be blessed if they both know His instruction and further carry it out: “you are blessed if you do them.” This illustration of Jesus washing His disciples’ feet challenges us to follow in His example of radical humility and willingness to love.
And isn’t this what makes our God so different from others? The Creator of the Universe comes down to our earthly dirt and decides to not only serve us, but invite us into partnering with His love. What a beautiful thing that we have a God who opens our eyes to see others the way He does.
Help me to love with open arms like You do, Lord. The more I come to know Your love, the more I desire to pour out love to others. Where are You telling me to be a servant? Where do my eyes need to be opened? Give me boldness to follow in Your radically compassionate example.
